I tried this on an Apple MacBook Pro running OSX El Capitan v.10.11.6. Other recent OSX versions should work too. Some of my findings and conclusions: The native Apple Mac 'Cisco IPSec' VPN client requires XAUTH. Attempting to connect without XAUTH is a hit and miss affair for IKE Phase 1. Even if Phase 1 completes, IPSec Phase 2 always fails. VPN Automatically connects without user permission At least once daily, at a random time of day, the VPN will connect automatically and with no notification that it has done so. The little VPN logo just pops up on the top left all of a sudden. Considering a VPN routes all traffic through Cisco's network, this is an unacceptable privacy invasion.
